    HDC Temporary Director Recruitment, S: 3 Aug 09
    Portland District will recruit for a temporary promotion or lateral appointment September 2009 to March 2010. The vacancy is for an interdisciplinary supervisory engineer or economist, at the YC/YF-3 (GS-15) level, not to exceed 180 days, to serve as Director, Hydroelectric Design Center (HDC), Portland District. TDY will be authorized. An announcement is attached.

    Duties: Performs as Director of the Corps' Hydroelectric Design Center (HDC) and is responsible for directing subordinate personnel in carrying out mission objectives. HDC's mission, responsibilities, method of operation, and role is fully defined in ER 1110-2-109, Hydroelectric Design Center. HDC is the Corps national center of expertise in hydropower and large pump station engineering and design. Services provided by the center include preparation of specifications, reviews, planning and economic studies and reports, design memoranda, and plans; technical administration of contracts; field tests; and site visits for hydroelectric turbines, generators, governors, control systems, large diesel engines, and other major electrical and mechanical components and systems used hydroelectric powerplants and large pumping stations. In performing its mission, HDC works for USACE Commands on specific projects on a cost reimbursable basis.
